Mia Cabalfin: 109 日
This was an experimental project with Mia Cabalfin, a Filipina artist in Tokyo who couldn’t fly home to Manila due to the pandemic. With a three-person team (the client in Tokyo and two OTT team members in Manila), we were able to spice up the performance and broadcast it live on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
As we went through the whole concept through video conference, we discovered our biggest challenge — communication. When in the studio, this is easily done by either giving the talent an earpiece, or by having a Floor Director physically around to do hand signs and cue cards, or the more usual teleprompter. In this case, it wasn't as simple as speaking to Mia during the live stream because there was one single channel for communication so the audience would hear everything.
OTT came up with a customized flow for the client — from giving her verbal cues without the audience hearing it, using visuals on the video to cue her from one song to another, and so on.
The live stream flowed seamlessly after a few days of rehearsals with the audience thinking that it was all pre-recorded. The performance was actually 90% live and we were able to do this with well thought out choreography and tech rehearsals to ensure that there would be minimal kinks during the live stream.
